Introducing Sky Movies Disney

This morning BSkyB has announced that they are working together with Disney to create a brnad new television channel, Sky Movies Disney.

The new channel will be the home of new and classic Disney and Disney/Pixar movies in the UK and Ireland, and marks the first time that Disney has been involved in a co-branded linear movie channel anywhere in the world.

The launch of the Sky Movies disney will come just in time for the Easte holidays on 28th March 2013. Sky Movies Disney will show recent hits including Brave, Tinker Bell: Secret of the Wings and Wreck-It Ralph in their first pay TV window. Future releases that will be available include Oz: The Great and Powerful, Monsters University and The Lone Ranger. BSkyB have also said that new movies will be available on Sky Movies Disney from around six months after they have ended their run in cinemas and will be exclusive to Sky Movies for at least a year.

Alongside new releases, Sky Movies Disney will also offer an extensive library of classic Disney films, including Bambi and Pinocchio, as well as Disney/Pixar animated favourites such as Finding Nemo, Cars and A Bug’s Life. Live action titles such as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and National Treasure will also be available.

In addition to broadcasting in standard and high definition on the Sky Movies Disney channel, all of the new and classic movies will be available to view on demand and on the go. Sky TV customers will be able to watch movies on the move with Sky Go, on their smartphone, tablet, laptop or MacBook. NOW TV, Sky’s new internet TV service, will also offer easy and flexible access to the Disney titles to customers who buy the Sky Movies monthly pass. Disney films available in 3D will be shown on the Sky 3D channel.

Sky have added some amazing new features to the Sky+ app for Android that will change the way you enjoy your Sky TV.

With the Sky+ app, you’ll now be able to control what you’re watching on TV using an Android tablet or mobile phone. From pausing or rewinding live TV, changing channel, managing your Planner and much more, you can take charge of your Sky+HD box with just a tap or swipe of your fingers.

Plus sky have made all the familiar features you love even simpler to use.

It’s a fun, convenient and easy way to make the most of Sky+.

	Control TV with your touchscreen Whether you're using a smartphone or a tablet, let the new Sky+ app become your TV’s virtual remote control. While you’re enjoying your Sky TV, just tap the remote control icon and you'll put the power in your fingertips. Tap or swipe the interface to pause, rewind or fast forward the action. If you fancy watching something else just swipe up or down to change channel, or tap your desired channel’s logo. It's that simple.
Manage your Planner There's a new feature that's particularly stunning on Android tablets. You'll be able to see and control all the recordings on your Planner, allowing you to enjoy your TV viewing totally uninterrupted. Don't worry – it works brilliantly on Android mobile phones too. You’ll see details of all your recordings right there on your Android device's screen. Simply swipe to scroll through and find something you fancy. When you’re ready to view, just tap Watch icon. The show will begin playing on your TV.
	Your perfect viewing companion The Sky+ app is a brilliant way to discover something new. Use it to search your TV Guide or check for hourly recommendations from the seven-day TV Guide. Plus they have made the Sky+ app even easier to use for all the functions you’re familiar with, including adding reminders.

What do I need to get started?

To start using these great new features, you’ll need:

1. A compatible Sky+HD box with the new Sky Guide.

2. A connection between your Sky+HD box and your broadband network, wired or wireless .

3. An Android tablet or smartphone with the Sky+ app installed and connected to the same broadband network. It'll work on any Android device that has OS 2.2 or later.

Sky release their Sky+HD 2TB

After Sky’s announcement last week, they have today launched their new 2TB Sky+HD Box.

Coinciding with the roll-out of Catch Up TV, Sky customers will now also be able to store more of their favourite shows than ever before. In response to customer demand for extra space to store their favourite TV shows, the Sky⁺HD 2TB box provides six times more storage than a regular Sky⁺HD box.

The Sky⁺HD 2TB box offers more personal storage than any other subscription TV provider, for example customers can record three times more high definition (HD) TV than with Virgin Media. Sky customers will be able to use the massive capacity to store up to 350 hours of HD content, equivalent to more than two weeks’ worth of HD TV viewing.

Even more exciting new features for Sky+

Sky are updating some of their Sky+HD boxes, so you might notice some new features on your Sky Guide soon. In particular, they're adding an Undelete feature, which promises to make accidentally deleting a show from your Planner a thing of the past. Also, Sky Anytime and Anytime+ will become On Demand, so there’s one convenient place to find the TV shows you want when you want them.

Plus, sky are getting your Sky+HD box ready for Catch Up TV, one more way to make sure you never miss the shows that matter to you on Sky, ITV Player, Demand 5 and later on, BBC iPlayer.

Undelete

Sky are adding a new feature to Sky+ called Undelete, so you’ll never miss a TV show because you've accidentally deleted it from your Planner. All deleted shows will be added to the Deleted tab and you’ll be able to restore them to your Planner or delete them permanently from there. The Deleted tab will be found to the left of your Planner’s All tab.

There’s no need to worry that you’ll fill up your hard disk with this new feature. The oldest items will be deleted automatically and permanently if you need more space for new recordings.

On Demand and Catch Up TV

Sky Anytime and Anytime+ will soon appear as On Demand in your Sky Guide, making it simpler for you to find the shows you want when you want them.

You’ll find great boxsets of some of our most popular shows, likeStella, Mad Dogs and An Idiot Abroad, as well as top shows shown exclusively on Sky Atlantic, available to download at the touch of a button 24 hours a day, all at no extra monthly cost.

Also, Sky will soon be launching Catch Up TV, so you’ll be able to get the best shows from the last seven days on Sky channels, ITV Player, Demand 5 and shortly after launch, BBC iPlayer, through your Sky+HD box. You won’t need to gather around your laptop to recap the week’s best shows. They’ll be available to enjoy on your TV, in the comfort of your living room.

Control your Sky+HD Box with your iPad

This morning Sky released a major update to its Sky+ app for iOS. If the kids are always losing the remote or its stuck down the back of the sofa, the new Sky+ app lets you use your iPad as a remote control.

To use your iPad as a remote simply tap your iPad screen and what you're watching will pause instantly. Want to rewind or fast forward a recorded program? It’s as easy as swiping left or right.

Also included in this update is the ability to manage your Sky+HD planner. You are able to view your planner, book recordings, add reminders and delete items.

The TV guide on the iPad app has also been updated to look and feel like the new sky guide for HD boxes released last month. Take a look at some screenshots below or download from our Sky Apps page.

Catch Up TV is coming

Sky's On Demand service is getting even better. They're adding a brand new 7 day Catch Up section to On Demand – so if you've forgotten to record that crucial episode, don't worry, it'll be ready and waiting for you.

You'll be able to keep up to date with some of your favourite Sky shows and also get the complete ITV Player and BBC iPlayer.

Forget about having to sit in front of your laptop or PC. With Catch Up, you can watch everything on your TV screen - all for no extra monthly cost.

Sky Anytime+ on the move with Sky Go

Sky has updated its Sky Go app once again, for both iOS and Android, this time creating an entertainment and TV shows on-demand area within Anytime+.

It means that Sky customers will now be able to watch a selection of their favourite shows on the go from their iPad or iPhone, without having to catch them when broadcast live.

The new TV area on Sky Go Anytime features shows from Sky1, Sky Living, Sky Atlantic and Sky Arts 1. Sky Go is available on iPhone, iPad and selected Android smart phones.

Sky Atlantic takes history back to school

There’s a ground-breaking factual series heading to Sky Atlantic that will surely be a hit for TV viewers and school students alike.

One of Sky's most ambitious home-grown shows to date, The Britishwill bring two millennia of British history to life through compelling dramatisation and cutting-edge CGI this autumn, exclusively for Sky customers. You’ll be taken on a historical journey that stretches from the Roman invasion to the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, including such essential landmark developments as theDomesday Book and William Caxton’s printing press en route. In addition, there’ll be a chorus of celebrities talking about what the history of Great Britain means to them.

And Sky want classrooms across Britain to join in the discussion too, so they're creating an in-depth educational tie-in to the show. Teachers of students aged 7-11 and 11-14 will be able to download a treasure-trove of resources from the Sky Bigger Picture website, including pictures, video, lesson plans and other essential classroom tools. They’re designed to help students grasp essential dates and themes of British history, and be inspired to discuss topics raised by the series

The downloads will be available online from Sky Stills and teachers will soon be able to register interest on the Sky Bigger Picture website.

New Sky+HD EPG rolling out this year

Today Sky are beginning to roll out a new-look Sky Guide for customers with Sky+HD boxes. It’s a phased roll-out which will last throughout this year, starting with ten of thousands of boxes from today and expanding to millions more before the end of 2012.

One of the key changes that customers will notice over the next few months is that the design of the pages reflects the increasing popularity of on-demand viewing, following the success of Sky's internet delivered video on-demand service Sky Anytime+, which as of last month is now available to 5 million homes with a Sky+HD box through any internet connection.

Integrating Sky's on-demand and other options into the landing page for a particular genre gives Sky's customers a snapshot of all the different viewing options available to them, helping them make the most of the choice of high quality content available through a Sky subscription.

Sky Movies customers, for instance, can chose between viewing movies live, watching movies that they’ve previously recorded to their Sky+ planner or on on demand through Sky Anytime+ and renting a film through the Sky Store. There is also a search function available on the page, which allows Sky Movies customers to search for a particular film they may have in mind.

Meanwhile, in the Sky+ Planner, customers will have the option to browse through their recordings by genre, so that where previously recorded programmes were displayed chronologically, they are now collected together so that customers can browse through shows belonging to the same genre

And, on top of this, the whole Sky Guide will also be available in pinpoint HD, delivering sharp graphics consistent with the stunning quality of Sky's HD channels.

These developments are being introduced over the coming months, so customers with Sky+HD boxes shouldn’t expect to see them immediately - but they will appear sometime before the end of the year.

Eurosport UK available on Sky Go

As of today Eurosport UK is available to watch live on Sky Go. Ahead of a momentous summer for sport in Britain, the addition of British Eurosport allows Sky Go users to watch coverage of various leading sporting events while on the move.

British Eurosport will show live coverage of the French Open, the Tour de France and Le Mans, among other sports this summer.

It will appear in the Sports section of Sky Go - alongside Sky Sports 1, 2, 3 and 4, Sky Sports F1, Sky Sports News and ESPN - and be available to all Sky customers with a Sky Entertainment Extra pack.
